i have serious reservations about the development underway
but must admit to loving the current state of affairs
i have been without a snap and shoot for some time
i feel better about the world with one
(heARTbeatgal is in hiding)
early morning CKCU interview…
good for a laugh
i never know what is going to come flying out of my mouth!
hope to see folks out tomorrow for chinatown re-mixed
i plan on all day fun!
countdown is on
crossing your fingers and toes for a beautiful next saturday
my people are taking to the streets (just one street really) in the name of art and community!
come out and play!
i want to know ‘what makes you human?’
i will have a tent set up on the corner of Bronson and Sommerset, right next to a mailbox!
rain or shine i plan on FUN!
‘nostalgia for business’ oil & collage 9″x12″
found rare time for some collage
a complicated colourful little homage to Landsdown
makes me smile about an otherwise unfortunate situation
i cannot possibly condone the goings on of the current developers
it will forever be sacred ground for me
i witnessed Miss Jackson’s (…cause i’m nasty) Rhythm Nation tour august 21, 1990
i also remember fondly sitting shotgun as a little girl while my dad did doughnuts in the large empty snow dusted parking lot some cold ottawa winter night in the ’80s
…now i look forward to the fond memories i am going to make at ‘whole foods’
out of the mouths of…
the first three of an onslaught of responses received from children
this first one either says ‘mom’ or it is a sun with two birds …and a whole bunch of other great stuff!
my friends KEEP me human
shoes! of course! yes!
horseshoes don’t count, and while quite possibly useful, those little dog booties i see about town are too undignified to acknowledge
my thanks to the kiddies who, without any surprise, find light and positivity
stay tuned…there are many more kids to weigh in
this is actually the very first ‘what makes you human?’ postcard to have arrived some weeks ago
it came close from home
communication is not reserved for humans alone
leaving a creative mark
testing (…abusing perhaps these days) the boundaries of communication
having an opinion
taking a stand
this is human
and it all starts with a ‘hi there!’
two cards mysteriously appeared on my desk in recent days
i feel the angst of civil servitude
(that could just be me)
i like very much that this answer is an equation
symbols. the writing of equations. that feels human
the content of this equation is intriguing
this brings into question for me the emotional intelligence and self-awareness of animals other than humans
we think abstractly. we consume. we hate. we justify. we generate dogma.
that feels quite dark yet an undeniable human cycle
the other traits i feel we share with animals. we have a leg up with humour i suppose, though i once knew a hilarious sarcastic black lab-ish dog
i know for certain to soon expect some postcards from children
i am without doubt that children will provide the best answers
i cannot wait!
happy spring holiday to all!
my message in a bottle returned to me
from beautiful uruguay
this first message makes the entire project worthwhile
gracias por la conexión Alina Tortosa usted es el arte
i literally squealed in delight and jumped around in happy circles (at the post office)
the postcards are making their way around the world
…uruguay, chile, argentina, uk, alaska & florida usa, saudi arabia, germany, ireland, my office
consider taking some with you if you are off somewhere fabulous
or if you already are somewhere fabulous send your address (firstname.lastname@example.org) and i will mail you a stack
this is total fun!
p.s. the project is gaining momentum having secured participation in this year’s chinatown re-mixed may 17th!!! (more to come on that)
