ARTpreneur

attended the ARTpreneur conference saturday

was glad to see the community strong and engaged

ARTpreneur

the business side of art

the 90%

Suki Lee

keynote address Suki Lee

we live in a time where “art is part of the economy”

good news for artists and business people alike

“art engenders creativity in business people”

while artists have opportunities

should their entrepreneurial spirit be moved

…branding, blogging, social marketing, networking

Craig Fitzpatrick

Craig Fitzpatrick

ultimately, “artists are product people”

makers of things

that glorious 10% of the time

however product alone

no matter how fine

needs a voice

flowing with remarkable content

if it is meant to be heard today

(certainly not all art is meant to be heard. i have piles of silence in the corner)

AND not only a remarkable marketed voice

“…be you. only more interesting!”

hard work indeed

i try

an unintended satisfaction of my artistic pursuits comes from the opportunity to engage my entrepreneurial side

i don’t think i had had that precise thought before these talks

many thanks to the speakers and organizers of the event

virtuous spiral

a virtuous spiral from a vicious cycle…

“The Somaly Mam Foundation is a nonprofit organization committed to ending modern slavery and empowering its survivors as part of the solution. Human trafficking, a multi-billion dollar industry, is the fastest growing criminal enterprise in the world. With an estimated two million women and children sold into sexual slavery each year, it is a global crisis that must be stopped.

Co-founded by sex slavery survivor Somaly Mam, the Foundation works to eradicate sex slavery, liberate its victims, and empower survivors to create and sustain lives of dignity and as agents of next-generation change. The Foundation supports rescue operations, shelter services, and rehabilitation programs in Southeast Asia, where the trafficking of women and young girls is widespread.

The Somaly Mam Foundation also runs awareness and advocacy campaigns that shed light on the crime of human trafficking, spotlight its brave survivors as living examples of change, and engage the public, business sectors, and governments in the fight to abolish modern slavery.”
