i thought the days of print were behind us, sadly
that is until i ran across ottawa’s latest arts and culture rag herdmag
it goes after my heart with its charming small almost-square size and quirky sensibility
i don’t know who is paying for this beautiful little magazine but i look forward to cutting it up for as long as it is around. i will even likely read it first!

what a pleasure to bump into fashion designer Anya Ayoung Chee (…of project runway fame) while wearing one of her limited edition dresses at the Miami Art Basel
a laugh for her
a thrill for me
i hope she approved of the styling
she is a total doll, a talent, and stunning in person

during NBO12, visual artist and photographer Robert Brazeau will, through his lens, capture a 21st century response to this magnificent era and environment
heARTbeatgal and illustrator/cartoonist/orator Otis P Gould III hope to add to the authenticity, as characters to be found in the speakeasy crowd
professional models and enthusiasts of the period Lola Lovestory, Derek Ruston and Marley Lewington will bring their interpretation of the style, glamour and attitude of the era
the experiment completes as Social’s customers and NBO12 participants are lured into the environment, encouraged to release their inhibitions, immerse themselves in the experience of the often excessive and artistic social culture of the 1920’s
hBg is making a call to the universe, and more specifically those with a fetish for the era, to come collaborate with us the evening of September 22, 2012 at Social restaurant

what an odd lady this seated nude became
i covered the freshly stretched canvas with a dozen coats of gesso, sanding occasionally, adding other layers. she was drawn on the thick and still slightly wet paint. the pencil carved her outline. more paint. her outline, now in black, gets covered again, but each time now i carve the outline into the paint. this goes on a while.
turns out she is pink. and her body, glazed in fingerprints. multi-layered textured gal. i like her.
