lemonade

when life gives you lemons…

collaborate with another artist in a materials swap!

the ingredients

the materials i am sending to american artist Matthew Taggart

now i cannot wait for mine to arrive

my energy for the project has already started to swell

the spirit of artistic collaboration is so refreshing

…waiting on the postman.

safety first

ok, maybe not first

safety finally, yes

safety NOW!

thank you to my hero!

i cannot afford another brain cell lost

paris ici

a year ago hBg escaped to paris

in her sunny centretown bedroom

un autre paris

pieces of me

i have been working on this piece

pieces of me

for many months it has taken over my dining room

it is a beast

much work to be done yet, there is  -Yoda

pieces are about to be rounded up on an adventure out west with the kids

some fraction of me is a Calgary mountain girl

and I am taking my children to share in these pieces of “western” me

got on my Montana cowgirl boots

Stampede here we come!

Yee haw!

branching out

wandering through the woods

at night listening to the rain

my direction for my Nuit Blanche Ottawa 2012 walking sticks was revealed

two sturdy branches, used to get me out of the woods, complete the collection

as NBO12 announces its artists i am setting to work on the sticks

along with “walk with me” heARTbeatgal is collaborating with artist Rob Brazeau, and others, for his twenties prohibition era Nuit Blanche photo project at Social

my excitement for the night is starting to grow

…how many days left?

conquered

we did it

it rained, but we shone

the sun did poke out once or twice

PERFECTLY alone in the woods

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

at night we could hear the wolves howl

amazing

i also crossed paths with two lovely walking sticks to add to the collection

without whom i wouldn’t have made it out of the woods

we will go back just as soon as i can move my shoulders again

thank you to all our well wishers

deep woods

best cure for an unchallenged spirit

take two six-year-olds into the backcountry

alone

for a few nights

(this may still be my concussion talking…)

kickin’ into girl guide mode!

prepare for rain, hope for shine

i am sure to come out changed

wish me luck!

hBg (the happy wanderer)

p.s. i suspect my nuit blanche walking sticks to be on the brain. there will surely be found at least one stick and heaps of inspiration to add to the project. “I love to go a-wandering along the mountain track, and as I go, I love to sing, my knapsack on my back…”

commission

…and, a satisfied customer t’boot!

“florence” mixed media 2′ x 3′

for a centretown office

made from a centretown newspaper, an old picture of centretown, roman-esque scuplture as a nod to my italian client (ha!), many bits of personal reference and the pole is real tree bark.

it is a happy painting for a happy person

made with heART

modern art

my MoMA Techniques of Post-War Abstract Painting course is near ended

abstraction and i remain wary friends

though, as with any art history i digest

it is the artist’s personal story that is most satisfying

getting inside their minds

to find similar comforting twisted thinking

or humour

or honesty

or clarity

Ad Reinhardt’s tree “How To Look At Modern Art in America”

i am particularly fond of Ad Reinhart’s take, in which i find all

i like a strong voice alongside a strong image

take for example Adam the Great!

(my affectionate name for artist, instructor, friend Adam F. Davidson)

Adam F. Davidson – Palette Knife #12   2010  above my staircase

before i was familiar with his work Adam introduced me to his discourse

thoughtful honest clarity

after, his work and i were introduced

it went very well

then to learn some of Adam as an artist, some of his technique

my acquisition has depth of meaning

what a treat!

thank you to my mentors, both online and in the real world

for their knowledge

i am grateful and better for it on many levels

p.s. i see MoMA has added some new courses just in time
